Sunrise/Sunset Calculator
The most critical element in photography is of course, light. For those of you who wish to pursue the beautiful skies, subtle lighting, and spectacular colors that sunrise or sunset weddings can provide, I offer this planning tool. However, please be advised that there are many variables that affect lighting, such as time of year (available light drops off faster during winter than summer), weather conditions (an overcast sky can completely destroy a sunset or turn it into a dramatic explosion of color), and of course wedding time schedules (the sunset will not wait if your wedding is running behind schedule).

Ideally, you have a window of opportunity of about 1 hour or more before sunset in order to take advantage of the following: rich gold tones in the light, lessened light intensity (which yields less contrast than the midday sun), and the possibility of cotton-candy-colored skies.

To use this tool, simply select the day, month and year of your wedding to get the times for sunrise and sunset on that day. Please be advised that due to circumstances beyond my control (such as the time setting of this server, etc.) no warranties of exactitude are expressed or implied. As with any computer application, you should double check the results (in this case with an almanac or newspaper.)
